THE QUEEN And Anya Taylor-Joy Both Cover April’s British Vogue

When I heard THE QUEEN was sharing the April cover of British Vogue with THE QUEEN’S Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy I figured the two were posing together. Both pouting and play-fighting over the crown, maybe even… partially clothed? And the headline would be something like, “She’s Not Dead Yet!” Alas, the actual issue is two “special twin covers.” One with present-day Anya, the other with THE QUEEN circa 1957. Vogue says it’s a platinum salute to the 70th anniversary of THE QUEEN’S accession, aka the Platinum Jubilee. Sign. Missed opportunity, but whatever.

On the Queen’s cover, she wears the George IV State Diadem, a crown that was made in 1820 for King George IV. The diadem has a gold and silver frame, 1,333 diamonds, and, along the base, there are two strings of pearls. 25-year-old Anya wears a replica of the crown on her cover. This is the 95-year-old Queen’s first time on the cover of British Vogue. According to People, Princess Diana was on the cover in 1990, Kate Middleton in 2016, and Meghan Markle guest-edited the magazine’s September issue back in 2019.

In other, slightly less glamorous royal news, THE QUEEN had a very eventful Wednesday. People says she celebrated the 70th anniversary of the luxury gifting company Halycon Days by viewing a selection of their “artifacts” at the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle. The Queen used her walking cane during the event, which the official palace tweeted about:

This isn’t the Queen’s first in-person engagement since recovering from coronavirus. Although she skipped the annual Commonwealth Day service, she hosted a tea for the new Governor-General of Canada on March 15th and presented a Gold Medal for Poetry the following day. The Queen’s next invitation should be to Anya Taylor-Joy. The moment the excited young actress enters the Queen’s drawing room, it’s ON. “You tryna steal me’ Vogue thundah, big eyes? Eat hickory!”
