Peacemaker’s Epic Opening Credits Dance Shows Up at a High School Talent Show

A group of high school students recreates Peacemaker’s opening dance number for a talent show, earning much laughter and applause from their audience.

A group of high school students recreated Peacemaker‘s opening dance number to “Do Ya Wanna Taste It” by Wig Wam for their school’s talent show.

While it is not clear exactly where the performance took place from the tweet sharing the video, it’s quite clear that the students and their audience had a blast with it. Not only do the high schoolers’ dance moves strongly resemble those featured in Peacemaker‘s opening credits, but they took the extra step and created appropriate costumes, including what appears to be a highly detailed version of the titular character’s uniform.

Fans of James Gunn’s superhero series have embraced the dance number with all kinds of tributes. In fact, the director seems to have made a habit of hunting down the best (and worst) recreations. He recently shared a video of the FBS Dance Squad performing the dance at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh, and satirically described one terrible recreation as “indistinguishable from the real thing.”

Peacemaker is set after the events of 2021’s The Suicide Squad and stars John Cena as the titular antihero. The story follows Peacemaker as he is forced to join a mysterious black-ops unit and hunt parasitic creatures that resemble butterflies. While a substantial number of superhero fans initially considered Peacemaker to be “the worst character in The Suicide Squad,” audience opinion has undoubtedly shifted. “I had to deal with many people telling me to f**k off. And now, I’m getting so many thank you messages,” Cena stated.

Peacemaker fans have more to be excited about than just hilarious (or cringe) reenactments of the opening credits. Most notably, the series has been renewed for a second season. Both Gunn and Cena took to social media to share their excitement and gratitude after the news dropped, thanking the rest of the cast and crew and the viewers.

Moreover, there have been multiple recent releases of official merchandise. Pre-orders are now being accepted at GameStop for a collection of Peacemaker Funko Pops! The new toys capture the raunchiness and comedy of the show, with one depicting the titular character posing in his underwear and another showing Vigilante inappropriately wielding a chainsaw. Similarly, Hot Toys is accepting pre-orders for a sixth scale figurine of Peacemaker that includes an attachable tongue and the character’s “Sonic Boom” helmet.

The entirety of the first season of Peacemaker is now available to stream on HBO Max.
